Welcome to the website of the Hearts & Balls Appeal. Here you'll find information on what we are all about and how, with your help, we can contribute to the wellbeing of those who have suffered as a result of serious injury on the rugby field.

If you yourself have suffered a serious injury or are suffering directly as a result of an injury sustained by a loved one, please feel free to contact us and we will consider if there is any way in which we can assist.

Please check our news page regularly as we will be posting notifications of coming fundraisers which we'd love you to attend. Also, feel free to use the contact page to suggest any really useful websites you may have come across that you'd like to share with our other visitors.

Hearts and Balls @The Jamhouse 2008
Posted on: 01-04-2008

Hearts and Balls @ The Jamhouse 2008-another great victory!
After the 2007 event when Scotland celebrated a victory over the Welsh we didn't think we'd see another night like it so soon. But we did and the scotland Team and Calcutta Cup turned up to join the party too.
Several hundred people helped raise several thousand pounds- all of which will go to help rugby help its own. Thanks to all those who teamed up to make the night a great success. The bands were tremendous: Donald Wilson's M8; Simon Peterson-Brown and the Prov Johnstone Tribute Band and John Beattie's Band. Thanks to the collecting team who did such a great job and to the Jamhouse's own staff who worked so hard on the night.
Next year's event is being planned so keep eyes open for details on this website.
Thanks to everyone.

Hawks Hit Twa
Posted on: 29-01-2008

Over the last three seasons, Glasgow Hawks have raised £2,000 for the Hearts & Balls Appeal. The majority of our fundraising is generated from our end of season dinner dance and two recent incidents in Glasgow have illustrated the need for Hawks to continue to support H&B in order to help rugby help its own.

Two young players, one from Cambuslang RFC and one from St. Aloysius College, have been seriously injured playing rugby and Hearts and Balls can provide support if required.

Glasgow Hawks would like to express sincere thanks to David Millar (ex-West of Scotland) for giving up his time to come and collect a presentation cheque at half-time during Saturday's between Hawks and GHA.

Update on Hearts and Balls activity
Posted on: 15-07-2007

We've had a number of enquiries for details of help we have offered or can offer and so here's a brief summary of some of the ways we've helped rugby help its own over the past couple of years.

We always act in complete confidence so there are no details of beneficiaries.

We've also worked with others to provide support and help and this advocacy and assistance is also a key part of our activity.

Over the past couple of years Hearts and Balls has provided:

funding for new wheelchairs for players with spinal injuries

specialist mattress for players with a spinal injury

payment of car insurance for specialist vehicle for a spinally injured player

paid for an additional carer to accompany a spinally injured player on holiday

specialist and other equipment pc equipment for a spinally injured player returning to study

assistance with funeral costs for a player who died

provided Christmas presents for the family of a terminally ill player

worked with national and international bodies and charities to help provide specialist vehicles and other equipment

These are just a few of the examples of how we've worked with clubs and others to ensure that those people who need the help of Hearts and Balls get the help they want and the support we want to provide.

Please let us know if there is anyone needing our help at any time.

Hearts and Balls.... and a whistle!
Posted on: 21-05-2007

Saturday 12th May saw Edinburgh club Liberton take on the might of former Scottish Cup and League champions Boroughmuir in a match to raise funds for Edinburgh's Western General Hospital's Oncology Unit. The match was played under the patronage of Scotland and British Lion star Bruce Hay who has been a patient of the unit over the last few months.

Bruce played for both clubs and was delighted to see the two teams come together for such a great cause. "Hearts and Balls" kitted out the referee and touch judges and fans of the international game might recognise former international whistler Jim Fleming who came out of retirement to run touch.

Referee Mike Hall played with Bruce at Boroughmuir and they were joined by Magners League official Alistair Cumming. All were delighted to wear the shirts with pride and Hearts and Balls were delighted to support such a cause.
